Start Your DonationYour Vehicle Funds Original Songs of Love
The Songs of Love Foundation is a national nonprofit 501(c)(3) that crafts free, personalized, original songs of love to uplift children, teens, and seniors facing serious medical, cognitive, physical, intellectual, or emotional challenges. Since 1996, we've delivered more than 50,000 Songs of Love. Each one is a custom musical gift, created by our team of song creators, woven with details from the recipient's life: their name, their favorite things, the people they love, the things that make them light up. Vehicle donations are one of the most powerful ways we keep that music flowing.
The Impact of One Vehicle
At just $150 per song, the proceeds from a single donated vehicle typically fund many original Songs of Love. Each one is a handmade, one-of-a-kind gift for a child, teen, or senior navigating one of the hardest chapters of their life.
How Car Donation Works
Three simple steps. We handle everything. You just let us know the vehicle is ready.
Fill Out the Form
Submit your vehicle information through our donation partner's secure form. It takes about 3 minutes. You'll need the vehicle's year, make, model, and a sense of its condition.
We Arrange Free Pickup
A licensed tow operator in your area will contact you within one business day to schedule a free pickup at your home, work, or wherever the vehicle is parked, usually within 24 to 72 hours.
You Get Your Tax Receipt
At pickup you'll receive an initial receipt. After the vehicle is sold, you'll get your final IRS Form 1098-C, usually within 30 days, so you can claim the maximum allowable tax deduction.
What We Accept
Running or not, damaged or pristine, old or nearly new. Almost every type of vehicle qualifies.
Don't see your vehicle type? Contact us. We almost certainly accept it.
Your Tax Deduction Explained

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions donors ask most often. Still have a question? Reach out. We're happy to help.
What types of vehicles can I donate?
We accept nearly every kind of vehicle: cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, minivans, motorcycles, RVs, boats, jet skis, ATVs, trailers, campers, and even some farm equipment. Vehicles can be running or non-running, and we take them in almost any condition.
Does my car have to be running?
No. Running or not, we want your vehicle. Whether it hasn't started in years, failed inspection, has a blown engine, or was in an accident, we'll still come pick it up at no cost to you. Our partner has tow operators across the country who specialize in non-running vehicles.
Is my car donation tax deductible?
Yes. Songs of Love Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit (Tax ID 11-3314191). Your donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. The exact deduction depends on how the vehicle is sold, following IRS rules detailed in our tax deduction section above.
How much can I deduct for my car donation?
If your vehicle sells for more than $500 at auction, you can deduct the actual sale price. If it sells for $500 or less, you can deduct either the fair market value or $500, whichever is less. For vehicles valued over $5,000, you'll also need IRS Form 8283 Section B. We'll send you all required paperwork so your deduction is straightforward.
How long does the donation process take?
The online form takes about 3-5 minutes to complete. A licensed tow operator will typically contact you within one business day to schedule pickup, and in most areas we can arrange towing within 24 to 72 hours, often sooner.
Is pickup really free?
Yes, towing is always free, anywhere in the 50 states. You pay nothing out of pocket. Our partner coordinates a licensed tow operator in your area to pick up the vehicle at a time that's convenient for you.
What paperwork do I need?
Generally we need the vehicle title signed over to the charity. If you've lost your title, we can usually still accept the vehicle. Our partner will walk you through obtaining a duplicate or the required paperwork in your state. In most states you should remove the license plates and return them to your DMV.
I lost my title. Can I still donate?
In most cases, yes. Our vehicle donation partner processes thousands of donations a year and knows the title process in every state. Lost titles are usually a quick DMV step, not a dealbreaker. When you fill out the donation form, just mention that you don't have the title and the team will guide you.
When will I receive my tax receipt?
You'll receive an initial receipt at the time of pickup. If your vehicle sells for more than $500, the IRS requires us to send you a final Form 1098-C within 30 days of the sale, which is the document you use to claim your deduction. For vehicles that sell for $500 or less, your pickup receipt is sufficient for your deduction.
Where does the money from my car go?
The proceeds from your vehicle fund the creation and delivery of free, original, personalized Songs of Love for children, teens, and seniors facing serious medical, cognitive, physical, intellectual, or emotional challenges. Each song costs approximately $150 to produce and deliver, so a single vehicle donation typically funds many Songs of Love for people who need them most. Songs of Love has delivered more than 50,000 songs since 1996.
Who actually processes the donation?
Songs of Love Foundation partners with Kids Car Donations, a trusted national vehicle donation service. They handle the pickup, sale, paperwork, and tax receipts so that the maximum possible amount from your vehicle goes to our mission with zero administrative overhead on our end.
Can I donate a vehicle that's not in my name?
You must be the legal owner or have authorization from the legal owner to donate a vehicle. If the title is in the name of a deceased family member, our partner can help you navigate the estate paperwork required in your state.
Do you accept vehicles outside the United States?
At this time we accept vehicle donations from all 50 U.S. states, but not from outside the U.S. If you have a vehicle abroad you'd like to donate, please contact us directly to discuss options.
What if my car has been in an accident?
Accident-damaged vehicles are welcome. Whether your car was totaled by insurance, has body damage, or isn't safe to drive, we can almost always arrange pickup and put the proceeds to work funding original Songs of Love for those who need them.
Can I donate in honor or memory of someone?
Absolutely. Many families donate a vehicle in memory of a loved one or to honor someone's journey. When you submit your vehicle, let us know and we'll coordinate directly, and we can often create a special song in their name as part of our honorarium program.
How do I know Songs of Love is a legitimate charity?
Songs of Love has been a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit since 1996. We hold a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator and Platinum Transparency from Candid (formerly GuideStar). Our work has been featured on 60 Minutes, the Today Show, CNN, The New York Times, People Magazine, and Parade. You can view our IRS filings and financial details on our About page.
Can I get a copy of a song that was made possible by my donation?
Every song we create is a private, personalized gift for the recipient and their family. We don't distribute them publicly out of respect for those we serve. But you can hear sample songs and read about the people we serve on our main site to see the kind of impact your donation makes possible.
